Six 14's were treated to excellent fall conditions this past weekend at the Totally Dinghy regatta run by RYC. Although there was no breeze at the city front (sad day for the big boats over there), we had enough breeze on Saturday to twin wire all day long, upwind and downwind, say 8 or a little more knots of breeze? The breeze was very steady and the water was flat, perfect racing conditions and allowing everyone to finish all races. Well, except for the first race on Saturday, in which…

20 boats sailed in the Pacific Rim Championships hosted by Kaneohe Yacht Club and sponsored by Horizon Container Lines, EcoFlag and West Marine. The competition, camaraderie and sailing conditions were some of the finest experienced in recent history. The hospitality of the club and the generously poured and consumed Mai Tais were as always fantastic. Most of the out of towners experienced two fabulous days of practice before the regatta in winds of…

This past weekend 6 I-14s made the trek up to Huntington Lake in the Sierra's. The weather, as usual, was clear and sunny and rather warm in the parking lot though not as hot as sometimes. The wind was up to two-wiring conditions at the start of the races on both days, and remained that way all the way up to the top mark. To add to the usual chaos on the lake, we had a plethora of Weta's present (12 or so) and we also started with them. There were the normal tales of close last second…

Clear and sunny skies greeted the five 1-14s attending the Big Dingy Regatta at Richmond Yacht Club this past weekend (April 14-15). The weather forecast, following the exciting storm cell of 2 days past, was rather mixed, some had it at 10 to 20 while others were looking for 8 to 12. Given the wind was from the right direction very early and was a bit more than normal, the fleet was gearing up for 10 to 20 in an ebb tide. In reality it turn out to be more on the lines of 6 to 12 (maybe…

Long ago I promised Hendo and others that I would post about what we learned about the B6, the new rig, etc. at the Worlds. This is my second attempt at doing so, having “disappeared” my last post into the ether of the universe. It is my hope that this post might spark Archie Massey or Mark Tait to post their observations of both the B6 and the K3 having sailed both of them one afternoon in about 22 knots after sailing at the Worlds was prematurely binned for the day. Cameron Puckey may…
